Surf School Supplies for Purchase!

The Blue Mountain Surf School is almost in session and school has never been more fun!  A limited number of Blue Mountain Surf School items are available for purchase.  If you know that your young surfer will hit the waves again and again, consider these basic items to make their experience comfortable.  These are the same items we will use during the school.

Use our contact page to reserve your items. Check back soon for online ordering.

“Surf’s Cool!”  Rashguards ($25)

These rashguards protect your belly from abrasion caused by laying on the wax (and sand) on the deck of a surfboard! They also provide excellent sun protection (UPF 50+). The light color reflects more sun. When wet, a gentle sea breeze adds a cooling effect.  Super comfy for all day play!

“Surf’s Cool!”  Wetsuits ($45):

We searched high and low for a great kids wetsuit. These suits are high quality neoprene and custom made for our school! Little bodies can  chill quickly so, kids need extra thermal protection in order to keep having fun for hours. The superior design of these suits makes them better than the ones you’ll find elsewhere:

  • The no sleeve, “overall” shape means little arms can move freely and stay strong longer!
  • Over the shoulder Velcro closure means easy entry and exit and no zipper to rub, stick or break!
  • Unique closure allows the suit to grow with your child or to be shared between kids several inches taller or shorter!
  • One suit can be used for several seasons.  Way cheaper than buying new suits after each growth spurt!

Wetsuits will be provided if needed (water temp is expected to be a comfortable 72 degrees, but could vary) .  Surf School Rashguards will be provided during the session and available to purchase for an additional $25.

Our SURF SCHOOL is an educational program for children ages 6-12. The program is open to boys and girls who are good swimmers and love the beach.  Designed to be way more than just a surfing lesson, your child will learn how waves are formed, what  turtles eat, how to spot a rip-current and more….all while having a blast at the beach !

The SURF SCHOOL will provide age appropriate, hands-on, education in the following subject areas:

  • Water Safety
  • Marine Biology / Beach Ecology
  • Science and Applied Physics
  • Art, History and Culture of Surfing
  • Hand Craftsmanship
  • Sport Psychology and Physiology
  • Surfing for Sport, Fitness, and Pleasure

The curriculum for each subject has been specifically created for SURF SCHOOL.  The primary goals of SURF SCHOOL are to:

  • Introduce children to the healthy and confidence inspiring sport of surfing.
  • Foster a sense of personal stewardship regarding beach and marine resource management.
  • Provide a safe and exciting opportunity for learning and creative expression.
  • Explore the broad range of occupations and academic interests related to surfing, beach management, and the coastal community.
  • Introduce aspects of historical, as well as, modern-day surf culture.
  • Promote friendly, environmentally responsible, coastal community living.

With the exception of severe weather, this event will run rain-or-shine.  In the event of complete calm seas, stand up paddle boarding may be substituted for surfing instruction.  In the unlikely event of dangerous seas, water activity may be  canceled   while land based activities proceed.  In this case,   alternative dates for group lessons will be offered and/or discounted rate individual lessons offered.

Just in from an excellent beach day. The swell came through. We woke this morning to head high bombs and a gentle offshore breeze! John Cross and I had the outside sand bar at Dune Allen all to ourselves. We entertained the beachgoers with a dueling longboards frenzy. Here are a few pics from the session.
