Rules for SUP Relay Race Format

General Rules

  • Four (4) member teams
  • Two laps per team member
  • Overall winner is team with fastest 8 lap time – less 1 second per $1 donated to Surfrider

In Water Transitions

  • Racers will enter a buoy marked transition area
  • Team members will wait in a designated spot, sitting together on a paddle board
  • Once in the transition area, no paddles may be used. Incoming racers may either glide standing or paddle by hand to the exchange.
  • Team members must remain together on their waiting board until the incoming racer makes physical contact with the waiting board
  • Upon the exchange, the next racer must paddle by hand until out of the exchange area

Race Course

  • The course will flow Counter-clockwise around several buoys
  • Racers will keep all course buoys on their left
  • The finish line will be upon rounding of the course buoy closest to the transition area

Safety Note:  Racers are encouraged to wear water shoes or booties. The entry point will have carpet down to improve safety but the bottom of this lake is mostly mud and/or vegetation.  The majority of the course is in deep water and not a concern, It’s mainly getting in and out that could slippery.
